A tag game takes a twist

I carefully dodged the three sets of taggers ready to catch me before I reached the finish line. The hot sun shone brightly behind the creamy cotton candy clouds.

While I dodged, I heard the moans and groans of the people who got caught. I saw them sulking and not doing their job.

The last set of taggers really didn't want to let me through. They bared their teeth like lions ready to catch their prey.

Something flashed gold up in the sky and I felt like something bad was about to happen. Either way, I made a jump past the taggers but found myself five seconds later sitting down on the concrete with an injured elbow and knee.

Yes, I forgot to tie my shoelaces which got undone while I was running.

I couldn't move my leg. I felt like I was going to explode. The skin was peeling away and blood was gushing out. The pain in my elbow made tears come out.

While all this havoc was going on, I heard a melody. I looked around and saw that none of the kids were singing. The song was getting closer and closer. I gazed up into the sky and saw a fiery bird sweeping down towards me with a magnificent red and orange tail. It looked familiar.

The bird descended, landed beside me and placed its head on my injured knee. I realised it was a phoenix.  He cried onto the wounds on my elbow and knee. It tingled and the skin closed up around the flesh and they disappeared.

My friends around me gasped with shock as they looked at my vanished wounds. I stared at the phoenix, stunned. Then I remembered reading in a book that phoenixes had magical healing tears.

Before it took flight, the phoenix gave me an envelope with the crest of Hogwarts. He gave one last mysterious look at me and flew off.

I opened the envelope and it said

Dear Varsha

You are invited to attend Hogwarts for the years to come.

Please come to Train Platform 9 and 3/4

Sincerely, Professor Minerva McGonagall.

“Tag, you're in,” said Zhia.

No more tag for me. I’m going to be playing Quidditch soon!
