A Dog’s Life

I get up in the night due to flashing lights

as my owner sleeps tight.

I tug on my owner’s sleeve but he just

goes back to sleep.

I want to go outside and get my dog bone

But first, I must get my owner off his

human sleeping throne.

I stomp and stomp around but it’s no use

so I just sit on the ground.

My last move, my last idea to feel

the fresh outside air.

I bark and prance around and my owner

falls out of his bed and onto the ground.

My owner opens the door and I go to gnaw on an

apple core that I had gotten the night before.

I sleep under the verandah safe from the rain

as the worm, getting eaten by a magpie

across from me, cries in pain.
