Eyes Forward

I am going to Wellington for a cheer comp. I am bringing a magic bag.

I pack my leotard with a choker neck.

I pack my pink and black shorts

and my white cheer shoes that have a gap for the air to go through.

I pack my squishy stitch teddy to help me sleep.

In my magic bag, I'm going to pack my cheer friends

with their sparkly blue, pink and black uniforms

and my favourite coach who says “Slay!”.

I won’t bring jewellery or dangly earrings.

I won’t bring the word “fail”.

I won’t bring any negative words.

In my magic bag, I'm going to put

my mum, to watch me being good at cheerleading

my courage to stop myself from being scared in stunts

my muscles so I squeeze my legs and don’t fall.

And I’ll bring my finger motions,

my smile,

my “eyes forward”.
