We chase the delphinium

We chased the skies

with fingers that flew

beneath our chins and into

the looking-glass

We cradled the nests

in bony arms

and chased away

the cold

Our dainty feet slid

into the mud as we felt

our wild fantasies

flourish like the weeds

And the weeds screamed their strength

to the gardeners and heaved

their leaves from concrete encasements

resisting the world

just like us.

We cowered in mountain eyes

and sought to find

the loving words

of the forests

We whimpered like wild things

calling the cats

into our arms to

embrace such outcasts

We pushed aside

the stiff dresses, the blackboards

and taught our minds

to wrap around a strange world

as strange as us.
